13 - 23 October 2017
On 13 October 2017, at 18.00 hrs, the National Gallery of Arts is pleased to open to the public in one of its temporary exhibitions spaces the exhibition "In the Land of Eagles, 2015 – 2017", of the French photographer Virginie Caquot. The exhibition is organized by the National Gallery of Arts and Rezart Jasa, coordinator of the agreement “Les temps forts entre l’Albanie et la France”, as part of the cultural exchange program between Albania and France.
This project, developed and realized by the artist herself, shows through 30 black and white photographs of medium format, a visual journey all over Albania captured through the artist’s lens between September 2015 and July 2017. They capture moments of peoples’ daily life, atmospheres, and events.
Commenting on her work Caquot says: “My photography is largely intuitive, guided by the simple everyday situations encountered during my travels. I also want it to be aesthetic, poetic, or strange, because it is my medium of expression, the reflection of my emotions, and I expect it to express more than I could say with words. It is a visual dialogue between the spectator and me. It is up to him to discover these moments through my regard. Here I give him my vision of Albania today.”
Virginie Caquot is an independent French photographer from city of Lille in France. Graduated in Humanities (History-Geography and Social Development) from the University of Lille, she first worked as a teacher before moving in 2012 to photography that she had been practicing for more than 20 years.
Friday, 13 October 2017, 11.00 am, there will be a press and media conference in the National Gallery with the artist.
The exhibition will stay open until 23 October 2017.
