The National Gallery of Arts in Tirana and the National Gallery of Kosovo, Pristina, have the pleasure to present to the public the personal exhibition of Albanian painter Zef Shoshi.
This exhibition brings a collection of 38 works in genres like; composition, portrait, landscape and pastel drawing, dating from 1956 to 2014.
These works are part of the National Gallery of Arts collection in Tirana and the artist’s own.
Zef Shoshi is one of the most prominent artists of the visual arts of the twentieth century in Albania, part of the leading painters of socialist realism in Albania.
He is a versatile artist, and, throughout 55 years of his career has created compositional tableaus, portrait and landscape paintings, drawings, graphics, as well as posters, illustrations for children, and book covers.
Zef Shoshi studied at the "Ilya Repin" Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, immediately becoming part of the new generation of artists who contributed to the development of Socialist Realism painting during 1960-1990 in Albania.
He is known for his compositional tableaus depicting various historical, working class and farming themes, as well as propaganda themes in support of the communist regime, he is also known for a series of tableaus portraying the figure of Enver Hoxha.
